Sussex Glass Art is a small business based in Pevensey East Sussex.

I have been in the glass trade for over 25 years, holding many different roles. But my passion has always been for stained glass. I love to play with colour the same way a painter would to bring designs to life. I love how the sunshine changes the colours depending on position or time of day. All my designs are hand drawn by myself.

I worked for a double glazing company for 20 years making overlay stained glass, a method I still use regularly to make double glazed units for lots of window companies in the south east.

I also produce Tiffany style stained glass or copper foil work.

The Tiffany Technique

The Tiffany technique of creating stain glass pieces, also known as the method copper foil, became revolutionary in the world of stained glass. It was suggested by Louis Comfort Tiffany, an American artist and designer, in the late 1800s. Before this innovation, the traditional lead came technique had been dominating in the stained glass industry. Louis Tiffany provided a method that would allow for greater intricacy, precision, and flexibility in design, which would also make the stained glass items less fragile.

I mostly make ornaments and suncathers this way.

Overlay Stained glass

Overlay stained glass is what you see most often in UK homes. It's made using adhesive lead stips and colour film.

Predominantly used in double-glazed units but can also be used for single glazed windows.

It's gives much greater insulation and pretty much any design can be made this way unlike traditional. With literally 1000s of colours available, beautiful design really stand out, Also its much more cost effective and It's also much stronger.

I can also make mirrors with this technique, and we can pretty much put any designs on mirrors.

You can also incorporate glass bevels to create incredible elegant designs and more modern fused glass designs. The only real limited to this technique is imagination.

I specialise in bespoke designs and hate having to say something isn't possible.

So if you have an idea you want bringing to life in glass just ask.
